Mission Soapbox Derby 2026: A Sold‑Out, Action‑Packed Community Celebration
Mission’s beloved Soapbox Derby roared back to life in 2026 with more energy, more spectators, and more unforgettable moments than ever before. Driver registration sold out early, the track was buzzing, and the day delivered everything from high‑speed runs to dramatic crashes and breakdowns. But in true Derby spirit, every single racer made it across the finish line—cheered on by a crowd that never stopped smiling.
Racing on the Track… and Off It
While the soapbox cars battled gravity down the hill, the sidelines were just as lively. Parabolic Sim Motion rolled in with our mobile racing simulator, giving kids and adults a chance to jump behind the wheel of a ’34 Ford Legend race car. The timing couldn’t have been better: Phinney Racing Team brought their real Legend cars to the event, letting patrons climb inside and experience the cockpit for themselves. Between the simulator and the real machines, the Derby became a full‑blown motorsport immersion zone.

A Half‑Time Show with Zero Planning and Maximum Magic
The halftime show was something special. Slavic, Richard, Sean, and Asher stepped into the ring with no script, no rehearsal, and no idea what was about to happen. And that was exactly the magic of it.
Because we ride together so often—deep in the Mission woods, week after week—we’ve developed a rhythm that doesn’t need words. When we get on our bikes, it’s like watching a Swiss watch tick: every movement precise, every rider knowing instinctively what the others are about to do.
Sean Bird, as always, stole the spotlight. Precision riding, massive air, and not one but two backflips had the crowd erupting. Kids were screaming, parents were filming, and the energy was electric.

The best part came after the event. As I headed home, messages started rolling in from parents:
“My kid got home and immediately started building bike ramps.”
“My daughter hasn’t stopped talking about the halftime show.”

And that—right there—is why we do what we do. Seeing kids get inspired, get creative, and get outside warms our hearts more than any applause ever could.
